About

Brynn Smith

I am a designer and photographer in Boise, Idaho. I make logos and brand identities, graphics for print and screen, campaign social content, and photographs, and I have done that work for small businesses, nonprofits, museums and government offices.

Most of what is on this site I took from brief to finished piece myself, which means the parts that are less fun than the parts that photograph well: the revisions, the file handoff, the version that still has to work at two inches wide.

Experience

Sunday Blues

Sunday Blues was technically a school project, but it felt a lot more like running an actual business.

As part of BYU-Idaho's Integrated Business Core, I spent a semester working with 15 other students to build a company from the ground up. We came up with the idea, pitched it to investors, raised money, built the business, made sales, held four board meetings, and eventually closed and liquidated the company.

Our company was called Sunday Blues, and we sold solar-printed apparel. I worked primarily with marketing and events, but I also had the opportunity to rotate into the role of CEO. That was probably one of the most valuable parts of the experience because I had to step outside of just thinking about marketing and start thinking about the business as a whole.

By the end of the semester, we were only one more week of sales away from paying off our $11,000 loan.

That experience taught me a lot about working with other people, making decisions, and understanding how different parts of a business affect each other. It also reinforced something I've learned throughout my career: good marketing starts with understanding the business behind what you're marketing.
